Learn to mix perfect nutrient solutions and balance pH and EC for optimal growth. Easier than you think!
Back to guidesHydroponic nutrition contains all essential minerals and nutrients that plants need to grow healthy and strong. In soil, plants get these from the ground, but in hydroponics we add them directly via water.
Plants need a lot of these:
Needed in small amounts but equally important:
As a beginner, we strongly recommend buying pre-mixed hydroponic nutrients from SmoothCrops. It's perfectly balanced and ready to use – you just need to follow the dosage on the package.
Use tap water at room temperature. Let it stand for a day so that chlorine disappears and pH stabilizes. Fill your container with the amount of water you need.
Follow the dosage on your nutrient package. Usually 2-5 ml nutrients per liter of water. Stir thoroughly until everything is dissolved.
⚠️ Important: Never add concentrated nutrients directly to the roots. Always mix in water first!
Use your EC meter to check nutrient concentration. For leafy greens you want 1.2-2.0 mS/cm. Adjust by adding more nutrients or diluting with water.
Measure pH and adjust to 5.5-6.5 with pH-up or pH-down. Make small adjustments at a time and wait 15 minutes between each to see the result.
Your nutrient solution is now ready! Pour into the system and let plants enjoy. Remember to check pH and EC daily and change solution every 2 weeks.
